I recently saw Janis Ian performing on the very first Saturday Night Live, hosted by George Carlin. Doug and I sat in stunned, awesome silence as we watched this tiny person literally mesmerize us with her song and her depth of feeling. It's lost the element of surprise but each time I watch her I get a lump in my throat.
